  • Preparing for the Home Energy Model: What Builders Need to Know
Navigating building compliance

The Home Energy Model is set to come into effect in 2026, following the publication of the Future Homes Standard in Autumn 2025.

The Future Homes Standard will replace the current version of Part L 2021, mandating operational net-zero for dwellings.

Whilst the Home Energy Model will eventually replace SAP as the calculation methodology, it is the introduction of The Future Homes Standard that will bring about the most relevant changes to builders, architects and construction professionals.

The main changes which will come into effect are:

  • A total ban on gas boilers
  • Mandatory solar photovoltaic (PV) panels
  • Removal of transitional arrangements for sites under Part L 2006, 2010 & 2013
  • Use of regional weather data

In summary, the industry can expect both air source heat pumps and solar PV to become the norm on new dwellings from 2026 onwards.

UKBC will keep our clients up to date with all relevant changes and requirements; however, do get in touch with us in the meantime with any queries.
