Display Energy Certificates
Since October 2008 display energy certificates (DECs) have been required for public buildings and need to be renewed annually. This was introduced as part of the energy performance of building directive.
Buildings included:
- Police buildings
- Government offices
- NHS buildings
- Place of education
- Public buildings over 1000m2 e.g galleries, museums, leisure centres
DEC's will provide information to visitors about the energy efficiency of these buildings. This will raise awareness of energy use in our public buildings and will allow public authorities to show, over time, the benefits of the measures they implement to reduce their carbon footprint. Failure to comply with this legislation will result in financial penalties.
